Grapple for Tractor ... recommendations?

Tree Spud

5 year old buck +
I am looking for a grapple for my tractor. Would like one with longer lower tines, believe they are referred to as root tines, to allow it to get under shrubs & small trees. Are soil can be rocky so I would like to be able to pick-up large stones.

Also, what other considerations or uses do you all use yours for?

Thanks!

I can’t tell you how much I like it yet, but I have an Everything Attachments Wicked 66 grapple on order that should be delivered this week or next. It is a root grapple but doesn't have terribly long bottom tines. They believe the longer tines can get hung up and bog down easier. They’ve got a bunch of videos and such on their web page and YouTube. They’ve been great to work with and I’ll likely order their extreme duty 3pt disc at some point too. The biggest downfall is that they’re on a perpetual 6 week backorder.

I don’t own one but I’d be looking hard at the EA offerings before anything else.

They certainly have a cult following that’s for sure. I have had a very good experience with them thus far and like that everything is made right here in the US and shipped to me for free.

I see that on some, the lower tooth looks to be replaceable. Which model did you go with?

I don't have a grapple, so that this with a grain of salt as food for thought. I completely understand a grapple for grabbing, lifting, and moving stuff. I would be concerned about using it as a root rake. Here is where my concern comes from. A while back, I had hooks welded to the top of the bucket on my FEL. When I talked to the tractor guy at the shop who did it, he gave me a stern warning. He said the hooks are great for lifting and moving things around, but don't dare use them to drag stuff. He said loaders are not designed to take that kind of uneven horizontal stress, more on one side than another. Given your tractor has enough HP and weight to deal with deep roots, I would be concerned about the root rake hitting a root, rock, or whatever that is solid on one side. I would think this would be similar stress as trying to pull stuff with the bucket hooks.

I may be completely wrong about this, but I would at least look into it. I would be much more comfortable with a root rake function behind the tractor instead of attached to the loader.

Thanks,

Jack

I like their YouTube vids?

Seriously, I do like the way they articulate why their products are built differently (better may be subjective) on their YouTube channel. Their prices seem better. I’ve read of them standing behind their products on other boards. Made in USA.

I have used a root rack/ grapple for years and have cleaned a lot of ground and trails and pushed out Tons of pine stumps and have had no issues but I would never pull everything with it I have a European mount which is a solid upper bar and pins on the bottom no strength for pulling

Thanks, that helps. Experienced eyes on an industrial piece of equipment helps.

Grapples are another example, but pallet forks are an attachment I’ve been personally shopping for. I’ve called my local dealerships and they’re all happy to order the “recommended” model for my tractor. They don’t stock them and they don’t know anything about them beyond the specs I can look up myself online. I can watch EAs YouTube videos about a number of their pallet fork offerings and know what I’m getting — at 10-20% less cost to boot.

One thing is that a proper root rake pushes with the curl cylinders not extended. Many bucket hooks I see are on the side of the bucket requiring curl cylinders to be run all the way out, which is, indeed, a more vulnerable position. 247’s photo shows how that grapple will dig, push with the curl cylinders retracted and in a stronger position.
