I picked one several years ago, about the size of a cantaloupe melon. I tried a bunch of different recipes, but it just tasted weird to me, cloyingly weird. It wasn't a bad taste per se, but it was very unique and off-putting. I'll happily try it again, picking a smaller one if that will make a difference.
Mushrooms are weird. I've recently gone off porcinis, which used to be my favorite. A friend of mine developed an intolerance for chanterelles the last couple years.
