Been trying to shoot some NRL hunter and PRS matches this year. So far done 4 single day matches and one 2 day. It’s a lot of fun!
From prs match yesterday (the stage shooting off an office chair was called “office bitch”, overheard a guy telling his buddy they named a stage after him):

I enjoy shooting off a bench but never got excited about it as a competition discipline.

I love to shoot from the bench but no time or interest in competition shooting of any kind one of my coworkers was doing some handgun competitions and he was married to his reloading bench I don’t wish to make something I enjoy feel like a job in order to compete.

I shouldn't say I don't enjoy it, I enjoy all shooting. But when people get together and start and challenging each other, it's always freehand.

I’m pretty bad at half assin my hobbies but I don’t have time to go all in on competition shooting either. I’m perfectly content being somewhere in the middle of the pack or lower as long as I’m not shooting stages that are hopeless. There is a different kind of truth about ones competencies as a shooter that come out when you have to perform on the clock with others watching and recording results. That’s helped pushed me to get better at the things I would have ignored otherwise. That and I don’t have a good setup to go shoot long range around home so matches are where I get to see longer targets across different terrain.

Cool thing is that there isn’t one match I’ve shot this year that $1.10 factory 6.5 creedmoor ammo woulda notably held me back in. Just need a good zero, decent ammo, and a good attitude.

I’ve got a 385yd range at the house and 1000yd at the farm that I can push out to 1200yds after the hay is bailed in July. No real need for me to go elsewhere

Yes, i've very envious! I'd probably be less enticed to go to matches if I had that available! It's still fun to be put to the test on someone elses rules/setup. I'm guilty of almost entirely bench/prone shooting and endless load dev if I dont know I'm going to be tested on improvised positions in public.
