For the third straight year I won`t make any pears

Crimreaper

Yearling... With promise
They`re all bloomed out beautifully and Tuesday night it`s going to be 27 degrees. This sucks.

Feel your pain, Crimreaper... even a bit further south than you, likely a hair ahead of you on spring green up, and also likely to see frost both Tuesday and Wednesday night. Will be super happy if I'm wrong and we stay just above freezing... but not looking for it to happen.

On the bright side, less fruit means more growth on the tree, right?

How did your pears do during the freeze? I had no damage except for the cultivar Phoenix. It was fully leafed out and had dropped most of it's flower petals. When I checked it yesterday, i noticed that 95% or so of the small pears had turned black and dropped off. Most of the other pears went on to bloom without any damage. Warren, Art Ledbetter and Harrow Delight are just starting to show signs of blooming.

This has been my experience the last 3 years. We have had a May frost in my neck of OH that has killed 99% of my blossoms. I think I got 4 pears from 3 trees last year. Hoping this year will be different.

looks like I lost about 50% of the blooms. Actually made out better than I expected.
