Chummer, You are my hero - trying to grow apples in the Arctic! Every time I think I have a problem, I just think of you. I went out today and took some photos of what you are trying to produce so you will know just in case any show up by July 15.

Sorry just noticed thread. You must be in Virginia with apples that big already. I think I may have some winners this year. I am so far behind this year I might have been spared. All the way up, even a couple miles away everything was full bloom. My place tight cluster at best. Those trees in bloom probably got zapped. One more chance of frost tonight then we are going warm for at least 7 days. If all goes well I will have the majority of the apples for miles. More importantly going forward on the trees I have planted some varieties are just breaking bud. Wolf River, Enterprise, and Gold Rush, are still barely out of dormant stage. That holds well for future when they start producing. Thanks for the pictures. I will use them for reference if we can stay warm for the next two weeks.

Chummer - Cold weather starts to move back in around the end of July up there, doesn't it ??? :D We had snow and sleet in up-state Pa. this past weekend. I guess it's supposed to get warmer soon .......... but they've been saying that for weeks now. Whip-saw temperatures this spring. I hope your apples and crabs do well this year.

Yep, been spraying every other weekend with Captan and Imadin. I am not trying to thin with spray. I have some small trees I thinned by hand and some larger ones that are way to heavy on the central leader that I still need to hand thin some.

July or August! My pumpkins froze out in July one year and August the next. I am going to give them another shot this year too. I have to hit it right one of these years.

No need to thin deer apples unless you want to avoid possible biennial fruiting. If trees produce too heavy they take a year off to get back energy and don't fruit

Good man !!!!! I have not been able to spray my Imidan yet as my blossoms are not totally done. Still have some starting to blossom now
