Food plot plant for “damp” plot

I know I am blowing the plot section up last few days, but doing a lot of plots new and old reseeding. I have two plots just for hunting that stay damp in the spring longer than others. I will not say there is standing water, but you don’t run a tractor through them until June.

What do you plant in those areas?

P.S. Is anyone else having a hard time typing in this forum? There is a delay that I don’t experience elsewhere when typing with my I -pad.

Most of my kill plots are like that. Fall is fine but don’t you dare run tractor over it until it’s dried out... for those plots I plant oats/rye/winter peas mostly. Seems to do just fine.

White clover as a primary, and anything else that can companion with it. It'll thrive in that environment, and it eliminates the need to get implements in there until later in the season. Does rye or winter wheat survive the thaw?

THANKS. Yes, I am far enough south that they do survive and seed out late spring.

You've got a lot of options then. I'd still stick with clover and either a wheat or rye to keep the soil occupied until it dries out. You could likely grow some amazing fall food in that spot if you can get a straw layer built up.

Alsike clover does well in those areas. It will get larger than red clover and would be a good companion with WR to help support it.

I'll second the alsike clover. I broadcast some last summer and it came back great this spring and seems to be thriving.

I plant white cedar trees and get rid of the plot.
