Foggy's Deertopia Proving Grounds - Happenings

So, I got this beaver that located into my little pond.....and is now taking down my aspen trees. Today I swiped a few apples out of my plot trees....and cut a few crab apples in half. Plenty of odor. Put those halves in the back of a large live trap I have....and threw a few small bits to lead to the trap. I plan to relocate this dude to Art's place when I get him. Relocation program. Jerk has cut down about 20 nice trees so far.

Hey Fog, I just moved him down there this spring. He has invited all of his cousins to come down!

In all truth, beaver create great habitat by cutting popple. The regrowth should help diversify age group in your stand.

We found a trapper to come in last year and I could probably find another for you as my neighbor is a director for the Trapper’s Association. Our water level has not dropped as floating bog plugged the creek above the dam. I have had to move a stand that was in place for decades.

The beaver will create and maintain a waterhole.

Hmmm. It's a thought. So is "CHUTE 'EM!

Today, I got cabinets installed into our garage. They did a nice install on these and we have a good plan. I put in an epoxy floor earlier, then a mini split for HVAC in the garage, and a spot for a TV....so we can use the garage for multiple purposes including our exercise equipment (treadmill and recumbent bike). Really turning out super....and with limited space in this patio home....this really works nice to keep and maintain the things we need. Happy camper. Also bought a nice outdoor grill, with a refrigerator and a space for bar / cooking. Nice large patio and my super view. Lake home closed yesterday, received funds today via wire. I am paid.....and loving a more simple life for me and my Misses. Our exercise equipment is going to be located at the far end of the first picture.....along with a 42" TV. Slick setup for us.
Life is good.

^. I'm told a 25% tariff is likely on golf carts....so I bought one. Now....you cannot find one of these for sale. I even got a 12 volt REFRIGERATOR in the dash. Holds a six pack. FORE!

^ That golf cart shown is a pretty special unit....brand new model in mid '25. It seats four people facing forward and has about a ten inch longer wheelbase than other two seat carts....thus a smooth ride. It is DOT approved for road use....and can be (and will be) a licensed low speed vehicle.....with all the needed saftey equipment and much more. Very well equipped. I get lower insurance rates due to the vehicle amenities. saves allot of money each year. Loving this cart....and legal here for travel on all the streets, just like any car. Many use them for a second car. We are going slow on that idea....but may get rid of a car one day. 7 year bumper to bumper warranty too...and 8 years on the batteic. ry. Fantastic.

In the meantime.....we can drive this cart to our boat located in a private marina....with an assigned parking spot for us....then wheel our cooler and gear onto our pontoon boat....and make a short cruise though a very protected cove....onto the main lake....which is huge....and super beautiful. This place has it all.....and is friendly to owners such as us. Blessed.

This year I added two 100 gallon rubbermaid water troughs at a few locations at my land. I also have this "sled" and a tub which get very frequent use. The deer really use these water tubs and they all get a drink a few times each day. I think they also serve as a social gathering point for the deer. Maybe leave scent too? Dunno....but the deer use them. One of the easiest means to provide a gathering point. Also got a big bear still roaming about (lost pic?).

I cut a 50 gal plastic drum in half and put it out. I've been pleasantly surprised by the amount of deer that go to it.

I had some beavers move in and they built me some really nice duck habitat. I left them alone for a while since I appreciated their work, but then their dam kept getting higher and the high water caused some issues. I didn't have any luck trapping them, but they are pretty easy to shoot with shotguns.

Boys will be boys....it's all fun and games until someone pokes an eye out.

This is the first I have seen this buck. He may make a sparring parter for that tank I posted above.....but my money would be on "tank". Not sure I would hold back my trigger on either of these....but this one could use one more year. I think he may be 3.5 years?? What say you? Nice bucks showing up pretty regular now. Should be archery hunting. Notice tho.....all nocturnal pics. Alas.

Here in west central IL he would be 3 1/2. First year the neck starts to swell. Not a very fat butt or big in the shoulders. You'll know when you see him if want to take him. At our age keep it fun.
