OK, OK. :) Most fish were caught on Lindy rigs with 3" to 5" minnows/chubs. I caught a couple on a soft plastic swim jig, but with the very unfavorable fishing conditions...I "cheated" and caught most via live bait. Most fish were taken on day 1 in 10-'12' water, associated with isolated boulders, but it stayed cloudy all day. Day 2, more sun and the fish were about 2'-5' deeper.

Mainly, the fish were "belly on the bottom" and "negative" and not chasing and not even showing on the depth finder.

When they are that negative, if you plop your bait right into their nest they will usually grab it.

Had a hoot catching bullfrogs out at the farm last night.
Crazy hot and muggy had a fish basket full in forty five minutes and didn’t even make a dent in the population.

Battered and deep fried is my favorite way. In Vietnam I had a dynamite frog hotpot(Lẩu ếch) which is a close second. My third favorite way is a Hunan chili frog stew that used at least two kinds of fresh peppers as well as a type of local pickled pepper. My local restaurant when I lived in Beijing did an excellent Sichuan style frog stew. Frog is absolutely one of my favorites. If they are chunky enough, you can eat the front legs too.

I exposed my kids to the fun of fishing with cicadas a week ago or so. I remember the fun I had as a kid when we had the "big 17 year hatch" and my kids are young enough that they had never had this experience before. It took them a bit to get used to having to pause just a second before setting the hook when the fish hit the bug on the surface of the water....but they figured it out and it became a game! They also thought it was neat that they just walk to the nearest tree and pick off your bait.

Released this 28” (over slot) a few weeks ago.

A few under slot (18” or smaller) but most have been decent size recently.

Oldest son and his wife were out at Tahoe all this week and did a little Kokanee fishing.



And got a local restaurant to cook some up for them.


Youngest son got into some nice perch this past week. One was a real Booner.

Finally got the right day to take a 22 foot center console 40 miles out in the ocean. Not something done lightly. 80 mile round trip plus trolling time.


turned out to be the first yellow fin we boated on our boat. Lost one, gaffed one..

Finally got the right day to take a 22 foot center console 40 miles out in the ocean. Not something done lightly. 80 mile round trip plus trolling time.

As someone with a 22' center console, couldn't agree more with the "not something done lightly.".

My typical trips put me out about 10 miles offshore, and even with that distance I've had two pop-up squalls catch me before I could make it back in that built my respect factor (or maybe better said pucker factor) as relates to conditions turning quickly. Greatest distance I've pushed out thus far has been about 25 miles. That run did make for quite a memorable trip, even if none of the species are typically listed among the top table fare. Anybody who's fought a reef donkey (amberjack) will know I speak the truth.

indeed. Wouldn’t have thought of that trip if the weather wasn’t perfect.

I rowed out about 1/4 mile with the 12 foot last week when I was up watering. Brought some new friends home for supper. Only one at the lake and they were snapping. Water down about 4 feet.
