fishing reports

Bill you have been quiet any fishing trips to share?

Boats on the hard ground. Generator issues. I’m hoping to hear something tomorrow.

Nice haul! How are you fishing the walleye? I'm thinking about going after them this weekend.

The lake I'm on is clear and deep. What is Winnebago like?
Opposite, shallow and dirty. Jigging with crawlers.

Ok thanks. Maybe jig-n-minnow, or a crawler harness.

Three more lake trout today. All three are going in the smoker. Everyone went gaga over the first round of smoked fish, so I'm trying to stock up before the end of the summer.

My son blew the outboard on our Stratos a few weeks back. Yesterday he came home with this 2023 with 20.1 hours on it.

My nephew and I got another limit of lake trout this morning. He was finally allowed to assist with the netting, and he did a great job. He even out-fished me the last two times out. Made me rather proud.

Bill any update on your generator. Are you back in the salt yet?

Not me. My son took a friend from his old job out. Pretty quiet day so they decided to switch gears and target sharks.

Pretty big tiger shark.

Tigers are protected. Release asap.

That's a big shark! Do they just cut the line or risk losing a limb trying to get that hook out with a pliers?

My FIL occasionally goes fishing on the Gulf and he brings home a mixed bag of fish. We had shark fillets once and I thought they were pretty good, but I'm not sure what shark species they were.

Bill about how long n how many pounds is that shark?

Not sure what shark that would be in the gulf. Maybe black tip. Best shark I ever had was mako before they protected them. Better then tuna in my book.

My son grinds the barbs off the hooks before fishing and uses some real long needle nose pliers. Like 15 inch pliers to get the hook out. You have to keep pressure on the fish with no barb but it makes unhooking them easier.

My son said 10 foot 300 lbs. I’m saying about 8 foot and 200 lbs +. But I wasn’t there so I could be wrong. Tigers are lazy because nothing messes with them. My son said it was like jaws. The drag just went click, click real slow. They didn’t set the hook 3 times. My son was texting me. I said let it go 30 seconds before tightening the drag. He said he already did that. Turned out he had to let the shark have the bait for a full minute before coming tight. 4th time was the charm.

Oh and I think I’ve said it before. My son loved swimming in the ocean when he was little. He won’t go in more than a few feet today. 🤣 Says I know what’s in there!

Sand tigers are awesome. I’ve dove with them a few times, cool critters!
