Favorite Eating Apple- Opal

letemgrow

5 year old buck +
This variety has quickly become my new favorite. If the crisp could be added to it to last a bit longer that’d make a perfect apple.

Saw lemonade the other day and a few new ones this fall I can't recall the names.

Happen to see sweetango? Seemed to disappear this year. I wanted some seeds from them. Saint Lawrence found a good winter crabapples called big deer from planting sweetango seeds. Cosmic crisp is flooded at every store.

I've never seen sweetango.

Cosmic crisp definitely is the hot item for now at the stores.

Opal Apple, that is a new one for me, will be looking for it to taste (love the color)

My favorite right now is still Envy and then maybe Cosmic Crisp ....

I found a Sweet green wild apple growing along a woods line, knew it was there but lost track of it and this fall had a taste.... Going to try and pull some scion off it this winter if I can find some on it. Always looking for that knew best apple...

Looks awesome. Can you get it anywhere, or do only specific chains carry it?

I buy a bag of opals every week. Envy is the other. Envy is harder to get this year. I get mine at the Natural Grocers. What's interesting, the ones at the NG are organic, smaller, and have some blemishes from time to time. You can get Envy's at the Aldi, and they are twice the size, perfectly ripened, and free of blemishes. Those taste like crap.

The smaller organic ones are infinitely better from a flavor and texture perspective, and they're not coated in depopulants.

You grafting this year sd?

No. Maybe in another year. I did plant I think 9 siberian crabs last spring. I could maybe do those in another year. I'd need to find someone that can teach me how to graft. I really don't want to kill good rootstock trees. I should maybe plant another 9 siberian crabs this year. Those went 9 for 9 on survival this year.

I think I need to stage a rain dance pow wow campfire to get @Foggy47 and @sandbur up to camp to help me with that.

Great. I ordered 10 more Siberian crabs.

I need to get the hell out of my apartment.

Cabin fever is bad around here. I ended up watching and napping through a 1962 James Bond movie.

Old James Bond movies are awesome. I've seen all of them. They used to do multi-day marathons on TV, and I would record several of them for evening viewing.

Yes it is. I'm making soap today. I'm taking up an old hobby. I made soap a number of years back and got very close to perfecting the uni-bar, one for hands, body, and hair, that would get you clean, but not leave you felling like you stripped your hair with acetone.

My favorite is for your eyes only. Moonraker is up there too. Roger moore did a great job impersonating James bond in cannonball run though.

I thought I'd have a lotus that turned into a submarine by now though..... Had the pleasure of restoring a Aston Martin vantage at a European car place I worked as when I was 21 or so. The proper color too. Was the same model car in the living daylights movie. No missiles behind the grill though.

Deading outside to put some triclopyr in some invasive trees along the food plot edge, just 3 or 4 of them. Want the dead trellis for vines. Just don't want 50ft tall trees by my apples n rye. After that working on the browning BLR, putting a mercury recoil reducer in it and reloading some ammo, imr 3031 and aa1680 with 300gr pills. Might spray paint a stock or two camo as well.
