End of the season here....

Well, today marks the end of our Archery season in the Metro Sub-unit (WI).

I wasn't able to ever get ahead of the deer here at work, as they would be out during daylight one day and then once I started trying to put the slip on them...bam, nocturnal for weeks. We did end up getting 18 deer total between all the hunters.

I never caught any bucks on camera all season until this past week. We need to keep numbers down at work, so I am most often after the does, but it's still nice to catch bucks slipping up. We have a self-imposed minimum of 8pt (and it has to be a nice big 8 generally). We have dozens and dozens of does wandering around, so there's no need to fill the freezer with some potential nice ones.

Anyway...thought I'd share a few camera pics.

Wish I'd get a shot like that during the gun season around here!

Finally had 2 bucks show up in front of a camera. They were following around a group of 5-8 does that used this gate every evening.

Time to start thinking about some turkeys...and get my tree orders figured out.

That's a long season.
Sounds like the deer have the hunters figured out.

We have a longer archery season in select areas, in an effort to control deer numbers. And these deer have humans, in general, figured out and any deviation from the normal day-to-day...bam, nocturnal for weeks. So many deer it should be easy pickin's most of the time, but they know where to hide in really small thick patches that give zero chances of sneaking up on them...only moving in the dark hours.

It's winding down here fast too, I think ours goes out Saturday. I shot a big dry doe in November with bow and saw more bucks and deer this year than ever before just not one I wanted to shoot. I'm OK with tag soup, already planning for next fall!

I hunt in the LaCrosse Metro and this ^^^^ is highly accurate.
