dormant oil and permethrin

Anyone use this combo for winter spraying of fruit trees?

Its recommended on Wildlife Group Website

If so, what is the recipe and direction for usage?

I have not used it that way, but I do spray my immature fruit trees with permethrin when Japanese beetles come to town. I find it is just as effective and lasts longer than Sevin. It is not labeled for fruit trees. I presume that is because of human consumption. I would not use it on trees where we plan to eat the fruit. That may not be an issue if the trees are dormant. I don't have a direct answer to your question.

There are DYI dormant oil spray recipes around. Just Google for it. I haven't used permethrin for trees. I thought permethrin was to kill fleas, ticks, cockroaches, flies, and mosquitoes.

Bill, as you know, I'm not a sprayer, but permethrin is most certainly used on fruit trees. In fact there is one product available that has it as the only active ingredients. I did a quick look and found you the label at the link below:

Yes, I think we are starting to find it used in low concentrations in products. I've been buying it in high concentrations and it is labeled for ornamentals but I don't see fruit trees on the label. It is very effective in high concentrations with Japanese beetles and a lot of other harder to kill insects.

Yes, the label I just posted shows it approved for apple, pear and peach trees.

Along the regular dormant oil line ( no permethrin ) - how early can dormant oil be applied to apple trees ?? Can it be TOO early ?? If sprayed in March - how long is it effective ??

Yeah bows, u wanna make sure to apply it after the danger of the temps dipping below 32 has passed. Guess if you apply it to soon an see a dramatic drop in temps it can hurt/damage the tree.
