Do you remember it being colder

Hope you guys are all hanging in. Won’t see a flake or frozen drop until the middle of the night here.

Really not much of anything on the roads. Have about 1/4" of ice on the vehicles and in the trees. About to head out to pick up my daughter. All roads between here and there are showing clear, but I will take it easy on the bridges. If it doesn't dry out today/tonight, tomorrow will be different story.

I saw Oxford, MS has close to 1" of ice already and allegedly the worst is yet to come.

I was a little concerned, being I was on vacation during all of the cold. I normally have several cameras, and wi-fi thermos stats to monitor everything, but they stopped working last Monday. I had someone stop and check, the heat was still working on Tuesday. I normally heat with an outdoor wood boiler, and I loaded it before I left, and had someone load it again, but it went out after that, so I was hoping the switch to the propane boiler went with no issues. That worked fine, but we must have had a power surge on last Monday, and it tripped all of our GFCI outlets, which is why we lost cameras and internet. The septic pump was tripped, propane boiler water vapor tank over flowed, freezer was off, and anything that wasn’t packed meat was warm and had to be tossed. Always great to come back from a vacation and be more stressed. I know I can claim it against insurance, but is it worth making a claim, and having insurance go up.

I definitely would get the freezer off of a GFCI protected outlet before loading it again.

That's a bummer. All that stuff went to waste?

My family and my wife's family empty all fridges and freezers whenever a cabin will be unoccupied for more than a week. It was a hard-earned lesson. Now the Canadian raccoons get a feast every October when we throw out anything not worth taking home.

I also remove anything that could freeze or that mice could possibly get into from my cabin when I close it down for the season. Covid allowed a couple of the Ontario cabins to become mice playgrounds, as no one could get across the border for 2 years or more. Some of the canned peaches I had in the basement for bear bait popped and leaked, but I was smart enough to stack them on a tarp before I left, so no stains in the concrete, just a funky odor when I went down there in May.
