Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get the guard off the pto shaft so I can cut the tube to fit? An hour of trying in 98 degree heat and no closer to removing the shaft guard

It's there for your safety. lol ...... thin wheel on a grinder might help

Multiple screw drivers? Leave it in when you get one released so it can’t pop back in?

I have tried everything but the grinder - and that is tommorrow morning. Gonna cut the shaft with the guard on it. Got one off - cant get the other one off. I swear, people who come up with this crap - they never tried to use their own part in 98 degree heat.

I was going to say fire. Mine is somewhere ??

I don’t use the pto shaft for anything a person would be standing next to it for.

You probably need a second set of hands and / or a vice to hold the shaft. If you are putting the screwdriver in angled from the back to depress the tab, and lifting the front of the cover similar to what is shown in the picture, you should be able to get it over the tab. If it is not coming off while doing that, and you are frustrated with it, just cut it off.

If the shaft needs to be shortened, then so does the guard. Just my experience.

SwampCat, here is the four step process I found works: 1) Read and follow the instructions in your owners manual. 2) Then watch two YouTube videos on removing the PTO cover. 3) Enlist a friend to help with a second screwdriver. 4) Cut it off with a wheel grinder.

Simple.

I have done the above and now at step 4

I take a cutting wheel on the grinder and cut the whole dang thing off. Yeah I know its for safety but I never get around a rotating PTO shaft and have a rule that no one come close to my tractor while the Pto is running or shutting off and slowing down. 100ft distance requirement at my house. So they are pointless to me.
