Deregulating Suppressors?

It's hard to read on my phone, but it looks like none of the testing was with bolt action rifles, right?
There’s a bunch of 30 cal cans tested on a 20” 308 bolt action and a much smaller number of 6mm, 6.5, 338, and 360 cans tested on bolt guns. You have to scroll past a bunch of AR testing to get there.

Here’s a screen shot of the list of all the guns they tested cans on, anything that says BA is a bolt action.

No. Several of the tests, including the 308 30 cal tests, are bolt action. Some are AR.

Bump - first ive seen of bringing some of the much less expensive suppressor options from abroad state-side. 'Tis a good sign. I've seen some interesting new designs come out recently now leading up to shot show too.
I dont see prices listed but saw somewhere that they are less than $400. Edit: saw MSRP is expected to be $199-299. wow!

Awesome. Are they available for purchase yet?

I dont know but I didn't see any listed yet? Seems like a release prior to SHOT show happening next week.

I am looking for a short to mid-range pig rifle. AR platform. Would like to be able to shoot sub-sonic and suppressed, also would prefer a fairly short barrel. My gun expert buddy suggested a .338 ARC. I have never even heard of that cartridge, I rarely hunt with anything other than a bow, but can't seem to get the hogs out in the daylight. Any experience here with it, and a recommendation on a suppressor?

@omicron1792 has experience with subs and should have some good insight. I’d think subs at night wouldn’t be great beyond relatively short range.

300BO would be more economical and give more suppressor options unless pistol cans are decent on 33ARC?

I’m a big fan of the 338 arc. There are some nice pistol options. You are more limited on suppressors, but there are 4-5 options, including the ab raptor in 338 or 375.

A 300gr maker T. rex from 10-12” 338 arc is about as good as you’ll get from subs. Know it’s a 100 yard gun though and comes no where near the efficacy of a good super in just about any caliber.

If you treat it like bow hunting then you’ll enjoy it.

Pigs will run with subs. You have to be ok with that unless you get really good at neck shots, which again is harder with subs

The 338 ARC is awesome, but I suspect the rifles and ammunition are crazy expensive for just shooting nuisance hogs. Have a look at .350 and .400 Legend as well as .300 BLK. Probably more options at better prices.

I don't look at them a nuisance hogs. I fill the freezer with venison with my bow usually. I winter in FL after deer season and enjoy killing hogs. I've already butchered 7 this winter. Tough to get them in the daylight, so a rifle with thermal is best. I run a thermal on a .308, but would rather have a suppressed rifle with subsonic rounds.

Gotcha. I'm all for it, and I like the .338 ARC. The problem I have with all of these new chamberings is that so many of the new ones disappear after a short while. The market is flooded with every type of cartridge, and only 3 have stuck around long-term, and 2 of those were just a commercialized version of something that already existed.

The .338 ARC throws huge slow bullets, which generally will punch clear through the target animal and give good clean kills. The issue I have with buying one now is that if it doesn't stick around with a variety of commercial options, it could be an expensive boondoggle to own a rifle in that cartridge in the near future. I would prefer to go with something proven for now while I wait to see if the 338 ARC sticks around or if it pops and fizzles like most of the other new cartridges that have come out in the last 10 years or so.

There a good selection of 338 bullets? Traditional that's win mag's market.

Nothing wrong with loving a wildcat. When you know you like it, buy extra brass.

450 bushmaster is not bad if you go subsonic. Been around a long time. I have a CVA scout. I thought it was going to kick. So, off the bat I added 5 or 6 ounces to the forend and a little over a pound to the hollow stock. Gun already has a bull barrel too. Feels like I am shooting a 30-30, or a heavy yugo SKS.

No suppressor though. Im in NY. Sounds like the folks 3 houses away shot their gun and not me. Mother in law get grumpy when I hunt next door. If they become legal, Ill scoop one up.

I have a 450 marlin Browning BLR. Had to buy brass at $3 a round from a guy in Canada last year. I opened a bag of 100, and I put away another bag of 100. I think the cartridge was popular from 2000 to 2008. When they offered full powered 45-70, it ran out of favor. Basically that was it's job when it came out.

338 ARC isn’t a wildcat. I was surprised at ammo prices when I put it into an ammoseek search, pretty reasonable.

Seems like a cool cartridge just takes more “non standard” parts than a 300bo (magazines, bolt, suppressor).
