Hollywood has insured it will probably not happen. (just liked it scared the masses to want to ban switchblades and "assault rifles", they're terrified of silencers, assassins tools and all, they make guns go "psswt")

The BS paperwork is still a thing but the wait time to get approved is almost as long as buying a handgun at this point.
I filled out the paperwork for a suppressor on December 23rd and was approved and had the suppressor in hand on January 3rd. 10 day wait with two holidays is pretty darn quick anymore. My brother bought his first suppressor about 4 years ago and the wait was 14 months.
Go to a shop that knows what they are doing and has a kiosk setup and it really is painless. Other than the cost of course.

If they deregulate suppressors they'll be harder to get and more expensive than now. Once the federal hassle is gone, everyone will try to order them. They'll be backordered for years. Prices will skyrocket. Shoddy manufacturers will start dumping junk as fast as they can make it. High quality, reasonably priced suppressors wouldn't be widely available for years.
If you seriously want one, IMO you'd be better off ordering before they're deregulated instead of after. At least, that's what I told myself when I ordered a couple last year.
