Whitetail Deer - Public Safety Concern at the Le Sueur Airport
Recently there has been an increase of whitetail deer impeding the runway at the Le Sueur Airport. There has also been an incident in which a small plane has struck a deer on the runway.

This is causing a public safety concern for those that use the airport. Therefore, the Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued the City of Le Sueur Police Department a special permit to harvest ten whitetail deer from the airport property. We take this task very seriously and will harvest the animals ethically. Our desire is to have every animal harvested used for food.

The police department is seeking people who are interested in receiving venison from the deer once they have been harvested. If you are interested, please mail a letter stating your interest in the venison to the Le Sueur Police Department at: 205 South 2nd St., Le Sueur, MN 56058. Include your full name, date of birth, address and phone number. All letters to be considered must be delivered to the police department by Aug. 19.

The names of those who have expressed interest will be drawn from a lottery and placed on a list in the order they were drawn. Once a deer has been harvested, Sgt. Aaron Thieke will call the parties on the list in the order they were drawn until someone is reached and the venison from the harvested deer has been spoken for. Once you have received a deer your name will be taken off the list. The person contacted to receive the venison will be issued a tag and given possession of the whole deer. The party receiving the deer will be accountable for processing the venison and considered the responsible party to insure the venison does not go to waste. In the event an antlered buck is taken, the animal will be preserved in accordance with the state permit prior to the deer being turned over to the party receiving the deer.

Again, we take this matter seriously and will responsibly harvest these animals.

Maybe they'll make all of zone 291 intensive harvest because of the ten deer at the airport.
