Day with the grandson

H20fwler

5 year old buck +
Took the oldest grandson to Dayton yesterday, it was part of his Christmas present that he had chosen. Neither of us had visited there before.

My grandfathers brother was a B17 pilot and flew over Europe.
The whole experience at this particular display really got to me.
I am not ashamed to say that it choked me up thinking about what they had all been through to save the world back then.

Sounds like your grandson is pretty smart for his age. Picking something that both him and Gramps would enjoy. I have been thru Dayton several times and keep telling myself I have to make time for the Air Force museum.

Went to the Marine museum out in VA with a family member who served. Another very worthwhile and well done tribute to their history. These national level museums really do a nice job and are a humbling reminder of the sacrifices made.

Awesome! I love that place. It's really a great museum. That's really fantastic that you take your grandkids on such outings.

If you ever end up taking your grandkids to Cedar Point, I highly recommend the African Safari Wildlife Park over by Port Clinton. Take several bags of carrots, because the carrots they sell there are much more expensive than at the grocery store. But don't take your new truck. The animals practically crawl into your vehicle, and the bison will stick their head in the car and slobber all over the interior.

Man, that is a cool piece of equipment. What's with the swastika below that side gun?

Represents confirmed German aircraft shot down by the crew.

Cool! Maybe the photo angle, but always thought the B17 was a bigger aircraft than it apparently is. I get the lump in my throat on occasion from various patriotic things. As was said already if you don't then you really should pack your bags and move to some other country.

They chewed on the rubber gaskets around the windows on my new truck....ticks me off everyday when I get in...

That is exactly what I thought, I expected the plane to be bigger.
They have a really nice display for the Belle, write ups and pics of all the crew and some movie clips going showing her in action. Easy to spend over an hour just at that display looking at everything. I think there was more info to look at than any of the other 400+ displays.
I know I will go back just to see that plane again.
