Cummins has 2018 list of apples - so far

Just a heads-up gents ....... Cummins has posted it's list of apples available for order for fall 2017 and spring 2018. These are what they have ready so far - more to be added later after this growing season.

Thanks for the heads up bows. Cummins is my first choice for new trees and I've never been disappointed with anything I've gotten from them. Last year I missed out on getting a golden hornet crabapple, so I check their stock looking for one on my preferred mm.111 rootstock. Of course they had some, but not on the mm.111. As I looked down the list, I could not find any mm.111 rootstocks being used for any varieties - it appears they have moved to another semi-standard rootstock, the mm.106. I don't know much about this rootstock, has anyone had any experience with it, or know why Cummins seems to prefer it now?

They say this is just their preliminary count and they'll update to add more in mid July. I would expect to see more stock added over time with some on MM111 or Antonovka/P18. But they are pretty good at responding if you shoot them an e-mail and ask what they might have on MM.111. It would be a good way to get dibs on what you want too.

AppleJunkie - The list they have up now is just the stuff they KNOW is available right now for their inventory. As this summer progresses and their grafted trees grow, they'll add more to the list later as they determine which ones will be big enough to sell for the spring shipping season. They usually add many more trees on various rootstocks as the summer winds down. I wouldn't worry that MM-111 rootstocks aren't on there now.

You can call Cummins also and get their assessment for what's likely to be available. They always answer calls I've made to them. If you don't get an immediate answer in person, leave a message & they'll call you back.

Just saw Chicken posted much the same info a few minutes ahead of me !! ^^^^^

Whew.... thanks a lot guys.

Thanks for the tip! Got my order in.
I'm only adding a couple more pears and another cherry to the orchard this fall.
I wanted to try a few of the Franklin but they don't have them up yet...I'll have to watch later in the summer to see if they offer them.

Not sure if Cummins will have Franklins available in 2018. Stark is already sold out for 2018 and informed me they are grafting all they can for 2019. I do know the Wildlife Group in Georgia secured 2000 for spring 2018.

Thanks for the info, Appleman !! ^^^^

For those of you who have an interest in the Franklin this is the eleventh consecutive year the tree has produced a heavy crop. Yields during this time period have ranged 24 to 30 bushels from the parent tree at the time of harvest in early October. If not for the fact we harvested the Franklin cider to produce our international award winning cider, the apples would hang well into late January.

The 2 Franklins we got from Cummins are planted ( last weekend in April ) and growing pretty well. I can't wait to see how much they grow this summer season. I'd like to get 2 more ( even though I'm out of room ! ) - and I'll MAKE room for them !!

The 6 Franklins I got from Cummins are growing like crazy. Doing better than any of the other trees I put in the ground at the same time. Impressed so far.
