Clover Plot Weed

I have this starting to take over large portions of a clover plot. Just curious what it is and if I should spray it now or wait until Spring to mess with it? Thanks.

It's ground ivy (aka Creeping Charlie). It's hard to get rid of, especially in shaded areas. I've never had to deal with it in a food plot, but in a yard, 24D will kill it and not harm grass. However, it always seems to find a way to come back after a while.

I have seen it in yards before as well. It isn't a shaded area, but is along a creek and stays damp.

Creeping Charlie is a low calcium weed. Also associated with low available P. What were your management actions the previous 12-24 months?

Mowing, spraying for grass (which until now was the only "weed" in the plot). We have experienced drought the last 2 years so some patches have dried out leaving openings for weeds to get into the plot.

Tough weed I have in my tree cage areas and lawn at home. Needs a decent shot of gly to kill it. I suspect a mld dose of gly typical of springtime weed kills in plots might not kill it.

Spot spray to steer it the right way with seeding something quick growing like rye would be helpful. Probably the #2 reason 2,4D is sprayed in lawns in the US.

I noticed my better limed spots have less issues with it.

Your clover is not going to like 2,4D at all. No epxeirence with 2,4db, but as said befoe creeping charlie is tough one. Switch to small grains for a year and bomb it a few times with 2,4D.

Not sure if it's a warm seasn plant or not, but does seem to wake up on the early side vs other weeds and stays green well into fall.

In my yard creeping Charlie had made ingress. This year adding amounts of lime that problem seems over for now. Next year more lime will be added. But for sure it's aggressive
