Is it safe to use around Apple trees? Spruce Trees?

I planted a 1/4 acre of white spruce and norway spruce for a road screen. Planted them tight together with the intent to cut some out as they start growing. I have grass growing that I'd like to knock back during the summer since I can't get the mower in there. Have some apple trees in similar situation. Will cleth harm them?

Cleth won't hurt them, but crop oil after bud break might. Use NIS and you should be good. Cleth on mature grass is likely to have less than ideal results.

Here's what Paul Knox (dbltree) had been saying he used for fruit trees. It's definitely a strong mix! I'll probably go with something like this, except sub out the simazine with atrazine.

2qts Simazine
2 qts Prowl
If grasses are present add
12-16 ounces of clethodim
1 qt crop oil
mix with 3-5 gallon of water in BP sprayer or ATV sprayer

^^^^^^^^^ also tends to clog the sprayer tip!!!!!!!

Simazine is thick white and prowl is thick yellow

Have you tried it yet? any secrets in mixing to keep sprayer tip "unclogged?"

I can’t get it to flow without putting it a sprayer with an agitator.

Yes, Bills, I've used his cocktail as shown there with the atrazine. Only on spruce and shrub plantings though, not fruit yet. It was season long control. I didn't have plugging issues using a Stihl backpack with the stock nozzle. I'd definitely give a hard squirt of Dawn dish soap in your tank next time you mix and see if it helps.

There’s a product called Spray Mix that will keep the chemicals from fighting with each other. It’s a compatibility agent. We sell it in OKC but the company that makes it doesn’t have locations that have it in some parts of the country. I can help you find some if you need it but to me that Mix needs some clarification. That is probably an acre Mix and is intended to be applied with a high water volume,so unless your equipment will put out a high rate of water per acre it will be impossible nearly without a compatibility agent.
