Just checking to see if this is Rye popping up from last year or grass? It is getting pretty thick and definitely outpacing my clover. If it is grass, I will spray when the the weather warms up consistently. Thanks.

Rye is purple stems when it's small. I can't really tell one way or the other from the pics but rye also grows straight up. If I had to make a call from the pictures I'd say you have grass there but taking a closer look would be better to know for sure.

Look like it could be rye. Did you broadcast any in there last fall?

Might be the light, but the far right picture has that blue tint of oats.

A light dose of gly coupled with some clethodim should knock out alot of the clover competition.

I spray some years, but I do not fight hard for a clover mono crop. Any recent soil test, nitrogen levels, organic matter levels. Tall bed of grass in the summer helps with both.

If I have stuff growing with seed heads above our plantings, I mow it off above the crop.

I rather not spray any more than absolutely needed.

Yeah, I put rye down in the fall.

There doesn't seem to be much of any browsing on it.
