Central leader pruning

Crimreaper

Yearling... With promise
I have a pear tree that I planted this year but it is a 2 year old tree. it has 3 branches competing for the coveted central leader spot and I was wondering if I should prune 2 of them now or wait till the tree is dormant this winter. Thanks for your help in advance!

Just tie them down and encourage them to be scaffolds instead

Yes, if they are right at the top, take them out now Crim. You'll get a lot more growth on the remaining leader. It's called weak leader pruning, a very good practice to get in the habit of doing.
