Can it be done... scent proof blind?

I've thought long and hard about how to make something like this happen. Even considering a dugout blind that's mostly under ground except for a cap of sorts. I absolutely hate hunting out of blinds. Would rather be on a the ground or on a ladder stand... but, there are times when I'd like to hunt a questionable wind and would be willing to sacrifice to do it.

I've heard guys will run a little smudge fire in them to see where leaks are, then caulk/foam suitably.

I hate hunting a blind too. But, on my farms there is some topography that makes a few areas that the wind swirls and does weird things. We have made some blinds that are as air tight as you can get. It makes a big difference. I've posted pics before. Made of garage door panels and double slider barn windows.

More think of a scent goes way in the air blind. Heat it with a more traditional heat source. Like the nu-way stove. Make a good sized chimney to put the smell way up in the air. Have windows set to open, and an adjustable inlet air pipe. Seen some setups where the ir vent goes 20 feet up a tree. Think a 12-15ft chimney pipe would work real good. I think the nu-way stove has no motors, works on convection like a woodstove.

This might be more a crossbow or rifle stand than for bowhunting. Might still be doable for that.

Id been thinking of that very thing; heat and a tall chimney. Just didn't say it... thought you guys might think I'm a freak for thinking overboard.

We very seldom get winded from a box. It does happen but not often. I attribute it to our clothes being treated in an ozone room. No ozone on stand but our clothes reek of it.

Same here. My clothes are always in my ozone closet, as well.

So my fam got me an ozone machine off amazon for my birthday. It wasn't on my list. Had decided a year or two ago that I wasn't going down that path. I haven't used it yet on hunting clothing or gear, but I have used it in the kids' bathroom and a basement room at my parents' place. That scent is wicked strong. Without wasting too much time, could someone tell me in sentence why smart deer wouldn't have fits over that smell?

If you hunt a blind that is set up for the wind direction is blowing why would you worry about it. I see all this ozone stuff and ozonics and I just laugh. Deer really are stupid and they actually have no idea you are trying to kill them. With all the advances it's gotten to the point of being too easy. Think back 40 years ago it was difficult.

See how Winke seals his Rednecks up to the point of where they need to squeegee the window condensation?

How are you going to get there and back without leaving scent? Or teachng them to bed where they can watch the access?

As shared above- I have used Ozonics in the hood of my coat going too and from a popup ....its pretty amazing....add a bike in the mix for flat ag ground and its as good as it gets.

"IF". Many of the spots I have blinds are hot spots with problematic wind current do to terrain. In flat country with a steady prevailing wind, sure.

I've been working on total sent elimination in a small box blind for years a I finally came up with a 100 percent effective solution. When I built the stand I installed a twelve inch vent pipe through the roof with a wind driven turbine exhaust and custom made 5 pound activated carbon filter. The deer could still smell me 50 yards down wind. (so much for the activated carbon clothing)
This year I installed 300 feet of 6 inch corrugated drainage pipe to an enclosure with 2 12 volt DC computer fans to create a negative pressure in the stand. When going to the stand for the evening hunt I drive my UTV to the fan location and connect the deep cycle battery and walk the rest of the way to the stand. I originally had three windows that I could open for a shot. I now only use one window that I keep open at all times. This window looks across a 20 yard draw connecting 2 food plots. This is where the major of the deer travel . I also have apples trees less than 10 feet from either side. I have literally had deer less than 5 feet for the open window eating apples and never had them scent me.
I'm sure some people here may think I'm crazy but this is setup allows me to hunt this very active spot night after night without the deer knowing there being hunted.

Farmsteader - is there any filtration in the enclosure? Or just far enough away to keep deer from freaking out.

I have traditional house windows in my blinds and the thing is they are loud when opening. I open the upwind side when I get to the blind, but it can get breezy and I feel like sometimes the wind swirls and pulls scent out.

For next year I’m designing a flap with EPDM and magnets for quick opening flaps.

That's what I'm talking about!
When people look at me like I have 3 heads for some of the stuff I do, I explain that crazy has no bounds....
I like it.

Farm after building such a concoction how do you get out of the blind without spooking the deer and blowing the whole set up. I built a ground blind out of logs branches and ferns and could shoot deer at 10 yards without them knowing I was there playing the wind.

Seen folks put a tube 20ft up higher in the tree, couple that with some natural draft from a heater, its a decent setup too.

300ft of that tube costs more than the shack.

I wonder if you put the exhaust into a box or mound of leaves or recently cut pine branches, would the scent be a bit more masked?

My stand is on the side of a knoll and my path to the stand is from the other side, Over the years I've been pruning the tops off the oak trees that have been growing along the path. I started pruning them over ten years ago and some of them are over 6 inches in diameter. I use an electric hedge trimmer and top them at about 4 feet in spring. By hunting season they are at least 6 feet and the leaves hold through the end of the year. I have exited the stand after hunting and I sometimes see the deer's legs through the oak trees. I does get a little nerve racking trying to be so quiet and not spook them. Some times they do run off but they never snort and are back the next night.

Wow, thanks for posting that! Super creative idea!

No there is no filter, the enclosure is 100 yards away through a red pine plantation. I have seen deer exit my food plot heading towards the exhaust and get spooked by my scent and come running back into the plot. My only concern is the noise of the air moving through the vent in the blind. It's just a steady low hum like what you hear from a heat register. Once and a while I will have a deer walk through the draw and will look right at me like it's alerted of something. Not sure if it's the noise or something else. I bought some sound absorbing foam panels that I plan on making some kind of baffle to minimize the noise.
