Callery Pear changed to a Kieffer

I thought this might interest guys who have Callery Pears popping up. I had one come up in my tree planting and changed it over to a Kieffer this spring. The leaves were a dead give away that it was a Callery. You can see that I have now removed the grafting tape and have a cane brace on it.

That's pretty neat. So you had a "wild" Callery and grafted Kieffer to it? Could the same be done for a Bradford?

Thanks. Yes you should be able to, because its my understanding that a Bradford is just a named variety of a Callery.

What about a if Bradford was a Cleveland that had Callery roots could it then be grafted to a kieffer? :)

Sounds like a grafting job for The Donald!

I would think "Yes."

We do know that there are some incompatibility issues that exist, and I would think the more complicated we make something, the more likely it could be for one of those to surface.

But, the crabapples that I topworked this year were ornamental crabs grafted to some rootstock. Then I went in on top of that and added a third variety. Those look fine now, but we will see what happens in time.

Yeah I had bought lilpop crabpapples from a box store I think 2012 ish? I top worked 1 to Orleans Reinette this spring and its growing nicely.
