Burgambel oaks

I picked up 15 Burgambel oak seedling plugs from the Idaho state nursery and they arrived today. I planted 7 along a food plot that has Chinkapin oaks lining the other side of it. The other 8 I used to replace a few swamp chestnut oaks that died in a 130 or so tree planting I did this spring. Those swamp chestnut oaks have for the most part done pretty well, better than the English oaks in the same planting. I read a bit on the Burgambel oaks and they peaked my interest, anyone have any first hand experience with them?

I’ve tried them in MInnesota with NO long term success . However, might be more of a location or soil issue?

Looking at ordering a few for Iowa, and cage/protect. Seems like a good option In certain states.

What kind of soil was the MN attempt planted in?
