Hey team,

I've been out of the fishing technology game since I built the cabin. Looking to get set back up with phone nav and lake mapping. What is the current best app to use for fishing? The situation would be I'm renting a boat and it won't have electronics, so I'll have to use my phone for nav. Just need lake map and ability to track my path so I can find my way back.

It's been a few years, but back when we were lobstering in Key West, we used the Garmin ActiveCaptain App on an iPad. If I remember correctly you can activate it on two devices.

Here is a shot of Kings Bay on Crystal River on the iPad….

You said you were looking for a phone app, so here is a shot of the same area on the iPhone.

That Garmin boating one did the trick. I'm hoping to head to a large body of water with lots of rock piles just below the surface, and I don't wanna be ripping props off the boat.

Interesting. I'm in FL for the winter and have never tried to use Active Capt for navigation. I've just used it to update my graphs. I use OnX when I go to Canada. It's not great, but you can see whats out there and run a track or mark waypoints.
