Best boots for western hunt

cbw

5 year old buck +
Going on my first mountain hunt in September to Idaho for bear. Researching the best boot. My only criteria is that I have a bunch of points built up on my Cabela's card, so I plan to purchase from Cabela's/Bass Pro.

Right now, I'm leaning towards a non-insulated Kenetrek boot.

Any input from those who've done western hunts?

I've always went with the danner pronghorn type boots that are in the $250 range and I've never had any issues. Lately I've been buying some bargain bin type Bass Pro Redhead boots and they are great as well but likely won't last as long as higher priced boots. In September you will be fine with uninsulated.

Regardless of whatever boot you choose, I'd definitely start wearing them around for months before the hunt, so the shoes and your feet are broken in.

I have kenetreks. They've been great to me and are totally waterproof. I'm sure there are other good options. But The Kenetrek Mountain Extreme's are solid.

I've used the Hardscrabbles as work shoes, but they got heavy on me so I moved to Oboz at work.

Last three sets of Danners I have bought have been off eBay. If you know what size you need in that brand, try looking there. All have been new boots.

You can't go wrong with Kennetrek. I have the Mtn. Extreme...extremely high quality boot. Out of the box they felt like I had owned them for a year. There was literally no break in period.

Zamberlan is another boot maker I'd recommend. I've got their Outfitter 980 GTX....made in Italy...rugged and lightweight. Not sure in Cabelas carries these.

Both would be a great choice for a western mountain hunt.
