Been a while...

5 year old buck +
It has been a while since I've posted. This August, I had a guy put a 1.25 acre plot on my land and I planted it with winter rye. I was not able to get lime put down due to time but the rye popped up and the deer started to feed. I put a box blind on the plot and my wife was able to shoot the first deer off our land one night in October. It was awesome sitting with her and watching it happen. I have a few cameras out and have a few 2.5 year old buck and one 3.5 year old. We saw the 3.5 year old the other night but couldn't get a shot. I'm enjoying the land and improvements so far. I have a lot to learn and an lot to do to make it better but I feel if I keep working, the land will get better for deer/wildlife. I will give you a report at the end of the year with how we end up.

Good luck to you!

Good luck this season. Rye will grow just above anywhere.

WR is a good choice. Easy and the deer love it. First thing to green up in the spring giving the deer food in early spring. Congratulations to your wife on taking the first deer on your land.

Thick cover next to a green food source is a foundational recipe for success.
