Bean cam

browndog

5 year old buck +
Just wanted to post a few pics of from one of my ag bean cams to show size of beans and some action they are seeing. This cam is set up on a strip of beans and there are 10 apple trees to the left about 20' away and corn behind the cam. This plot was top seeded with forage turnip/rape/radish in early July. These beans are 48-50" tall and will be a huge draw come mid November early December. I have 5 other bean plots like this. No need for eagle beans here.;)

Yep, beans the number one late season draw!

Any chance I could get a 1/2 acre bean field to grow if I have a 20 acre bean field 150 yards away on the neighbors?

a 1/2 acre? Only if you fence it in my area.

Figured. I know 1/2 acre generally would be way to small but with a larger field next property over I wonder if they would make it at least until after the ag field is harvested which would be after our season opens.

You want them trimmed down like this? Not me, I would rather have the beans, than brassicas.

I have 2 -1/2 acre plots at home on my 11 acres that are bordered by 60 acres of beans. They look a lot like Browndog's beans except mine are almost all yellow and brown now. When there is corn in that 60 acre field they don't fair quite so well. I would certainly give it a try.

I planted them on 13" rows this year so they would have to browse them harder to keep them trimmed back, that did seem to help.

If I decide to try it one year I'll make sure at least one of the two nearby fields has beans.

These were my beans in a 1/2 acre plot before they started to dry down. Had a cam on them and deer were in them all the time.

The key is getting them to set pods right?

Set pods on a small plot with WI deer densities??? HAHAHAHAHA!!! On our old place they grew great, but on a half acre plot, ag beans were hoovered to the dirt before they got 6" tall, every time. The Tyrone and Laredo forage beans did slightly better, they made it to between 8" and 10" tall before they were gone in a few days. The deer would eat them down to a 1" tall stick. Every year after fawn drop, a couple does would bring their "brats" in there and within a week.......poof.........the whole field was gone! This was back during the heyday of the Juneau Co population boom, lots less deer now, so maybe they would fair better? Or you would have to e-fence them.

I haven't had a problem with them getting pods, tons of them on there right now. I'll try to get a close up tonight now that they are drying down.

Nova, what's your DPSM over there, I'm guessing around 12-16.

Where these beans are it's probably a little higher being right on the edge of the metro area, but that is pretty close I would guess.

The plots are very close to a half acre, one is .6 and the other is .41acres

Are you guys using Roundup Ready beans?

I think my deer number here are higher than what you have by you.
I would say that^^^is a good bet! Although, the populations in that area are rebounding slightly each season with the "new" rules and lower quotas.

I am going to Liberty Link next year because of all the Waterhemp issues we have been having in Missouri.
