BenA 5 year old buck + Dec 13, 2022 #1 I should have taken pics of this trees stem arrangement, but didn't. Can someone id this or narrow it down by its bark. I have quite a few of these trees. I thought sourwood at first, but some are pretty large.

BenA 5 year old buck + Dec 13, 2022 #2 I'm almost certain it's sassafras. If so, I've got some really big ones that I'll probably get rid of to make room for some seedling white oaks.

j-bird Moderator Dec 13, 2022 #5 Find a limb off of it and snap it....then smell it where it was broken. It should have a "rootbeer" type smell to it if it is sassafras.
