Is the I55 tree a late hanger Jordan ?? I remember the pix you posted of it, but don't recall when it dropped.

I just checked my 6 first-time grafts today and 4 of the 6 are opening the terminal buds on the scions. I moved those out to the north side of the house for 3 1/2 hrs. this afternoon to get 'em some light and air. Buds are starting to show some green tint. I hope they continue to progress. I keep them watered and they're in VERY good compost / soil mix. Pots are 1 ft. tall and 1 ft. dia. Even if the other 2 croak, I'll be tickled to have 4 late-hangers to plant at camp next spring !!

Thanks Aero & NH !! The scion I collected from 2 apple trees in March in northern Pa. and they still had about a dozen apples on them then. In Dec. they were still pretty loaded with a lot of apples. They seem to drop sporadically over several months - good for deer trees. I did 3 on B-118, and 3 on MM-111.

Boy, I don't know N.H. What's valuable info from a first-time grafter worth to ya ?? :D ........... had to........... Of the 6 grafts I did, 4 are opening buds on the scions. The other 2, aren't doing anything yet. They are all in pots and I've put them outside on the north side of the house. The rootstocks are pushing buds too and I rubbed them off except for one at the top of the rootstock - just in case of graft failure. I have 4 other rootstocks that I didn't graft to just to plant them and see what they develop into. ( 2 B-118 and 2 MM-111 ) I did cleft grafts on all 6 just because it seemed simpler and the grip of the rootstock on the scion was tight. Wrapping with parafilm was easy ( I'm used to making watertight electrical splices with various kinds of tape. ) and I coated the graft with Treekote.
The buds seem to be opening a little more each day. The pots got a nice easy rain on them this A.M. Filtered sun came out this afternoon.
I got a UPS notice that our apple trees from ACN were shipped for our camp. We'll be planting them next weekend - and should be getting another shipment from Cummins in the next few days as well.

We've had a high at my house of 73, but avg. 63 for highs - lows about 45. How about up there ??

9 out of 10 of my grafts are showing lots of life! 1 is lagging but still breaking buds. Tks for asking! The one that's lagging behind was a redo cuz my 2 yr old lil watering buddy got his hands on it! Lol
I wasn't mad but actually kind of excited to get more grafting practice! I will post some pics tomorrow. One arkansas black has some nice leaves on it. My parents are amazed at the hole project. I think my dad is getting the grafting bug as well:)

We have had some 80 degree days here in Mo. It was hot today. Nighttime lows have been in the 50's an 60's.. I'm on my 3rd round of cutting with my lawncare business:)

That's a good number NH lol. I will be putting some of mine in rootrappers this week. I will be at 82 with 15 roots I just got from a forum member They are P18 and I am a polish guy so hope they will do well lol. I am about 75 % bud break but disappointed that a full variety of 2 or 3 trees didn't break. Wondering it s the scion I got based on my other results. Hmmmmm

I am having slow results from the ones I got from Maple Valley. I also had an issue with a scion from them last year also. Not saying it's them but both were pretty small diameter also

Question to grafters - I looked at my grafts ( only 6 of them ) and noticed 2 tiny, clear red drops of liquid sitting on top of one terminal bud. Only on 1 graft. Anyone ever see this or know what it is ??

I just checked on my grafts again and another graft has a bud cracking open showing some whitish-green. So it appears that 5 of my 6 grafts are surviving. I' m happy for a first-timer !! Thanks to all on this forum for the knowledge and sharing it.

These are my most aggresive growing grafts so far. One is a Arkansas Black the other is a I55. I can wait to check on them every time I come home from a 48hr shift at the ambulance dist!

Nice growth Jordan and BnB keep them popping almost 100% success wooohooo. I put 11 of mine in rootrapper bags today and hope to get another 20 in tomorrow. Will be keeping them in the garage this week as we have some cold weather coming in after today

Aero, this was my first year buying grafts and I purchased from Maple Valley. My grafts were very small and a few close to tiny. Very Challenging to graft. Mine have a week behind them and so far no results but mine have been out in my shed which has been cool. In fairness they deserve more time.

I have 2 varieties that are not moving at all and are small and the other only 1 graft seems to be breaking. All 3 of those are from Maple Valley The best scions were from the Geneva grin repository which were all free. Almost 100% of the grafts are breaking buds. I also got some great scions from forum members. I may forego Maple Valley next year. I got some great scions from a guy in New Hampshire who makes cider up there and his scion wood was big and hearty. Should have some scions from him on my trees next year
