Austrian pines in the shade?

I have some white and austrian pines on order that I will be planting in a couple weeks. I want to use a few of them in a fairly shady spot. Whites grow naturally here and although they are bushy in areas with full sun they do grow and survive in the understory. Can I expect the same from austrians or do they require full sun?

Don't know specifically, but as an example, I have both in a windbreak, and once the side branches were shaded on the Austrian Pines, they quickly died, and the white pines lower branches would stay alive a lot longer in the shade.

Hemlocks can take the shade pretty well if it's damp.

Not sure but I would cage them
