Apple trees

So my apple rootstock that I grafted are still in buckets, should I keep them in the garage over winter? It might only get below freezing in there 1 or 2 days this winter. Not sure I can get them planted. I might be able to on sturdy, but then it is supposed to be below freezing Saturday through mid week.

Last couple years I have buried my 1st year grafts in pots in my garden. Just buried the pots level with the ground and added some leaves on top to help insulate. They survived the last couple years just fine this way for me. I am in Wisconsin. I then planted them in the spring.

Weston's plan will work well.

I just leave my plants in their pots where they grew all summer. That area is generally covered with a large snow drift and my survival rate has been great.
