Apple tree help.

This apple tree looks healthy inside the tube. Above the tube though it looks terrible. Any ideas why this would happen?

Japanese beetles?

^^^^ Looks like something is eating the exposed leaves. Looks like some sort of caterpillar(s) to me. Japs usually turn the leaves into "lace" with only the veins left. It looks like whole sections of leaves are gone. I'd spray with Sevin. Also - any small hail recently??

No hail. I'll give it a shot of Sevin and see what happens. Notice the stem is also curled around slightly. Almost like thistle does when hit with 24d

If that top turns brown/black and looks like it got burnt, that'd be fireblight.

@homerj1 after a quick google search, I think you might be onto something. Other trees as well.🤬

I'll get some more pictures up later today of a few other trees and get more opinions on it.

Trees are more prone to disease when stressed. The tubes shadow the sun a bit. Try to water them if you have the time and means to do so.

My new trees this year had cedar rust on the first set of leafs, now the newer growth looks alot better once the roots got established. I have been giving them about 2 gallons each 2x a week. Bareroot stock antonovkas, but the deer will like em someday.

More pictures of this tree.

We’ve had good moisture this year up until the last 2-3 weeks. It got 5 gallons on this past Saturday.

New to having young apple trees, but you might want to look into either pruning the fireblight back, or culling the tree to prevent spreading it.

Here is a apple tree a few hundred yards away from the prior one posted. I always just assumed this was CAR but maybe I’m battling 2 diseases on this tree?

Some of those spots are another fungal disease, Frogeye spot/Black Rot

The young tree in the tube does not have fire blight, does have bug damage, likely a caterpillar. The reddish color on the leaves could be a few different things, the variety shown has red veins and could just naturally have the red pigment "discoloration". The older tree is showing signs of Scab or another fungal disease, it is not CAR.

Thanks to everyone who responded.

Turkey Creek,
What should I be doing to treat?

I wouldnt worry about treating for any fungal diseases at this time of year. Next year if you choose to you can apply fungicide as the leaves begin emerging and then on a regular scheduled basis.

Thanks Turk!
