Anyone planted Gingrich trees?

Mattyq2402

Has anyone bought from Jay Gingrich? Curious on how the trees look and are growing? I am looking to do an apple order and his apple trees would add to my crab dominated orchards. Curious if anyone can vouch for the quality due to his higher pricing.

Let us know if you do.
I like Don & Terry, but I’m a little skeptical of anything they promote. It’s all the “best ever”, and at an inflated price to boot.

I am gonna give it a try. Went with 2 Jehovah”s choice, 1 rut master, 1 steady Eddie, and one cAndy crab. They are expensive, hopefully they are solid. I’ll have them paired up against BH and Whitetail’s crab varieties in same plot. I’ll have a good 25 apple and 20 pear in this large plot. Getting anxious….

Looks like he sells a Candy Crab that appears different than the Bluehill Candy Crab. Interesting that they both appear to be trademarked.

Are they out of Arthru, Il?

Mennonite folks that I've bought cedars from, but not fruit trees. Seem like good folks, but i can't speak to the fruit trees

I "Dared to Compare" their bedding in a bag vs generic seed from Ernst and an acquaintance tested their Nutracrave corn vs 3 other varieties. RW is 0 in 2. As a loyal listener of the podcast, and I genuinely like Don and Terry, it's disappointing that their marketing is more hype than performance.

For $69 per tree, I'm not testing these varieties.

I do not think you could ship a tree big enough to warrant $69. Sometimes the smaller trees aclimate better anyways. I dont see where they say what rootstock they're grafted onto. Dealbreaker for me. 1/2 the unknown rootstock trees I have purchased I problems with. Either slow growth or tree is not anchoring to my heavy clay.

There are better trees than other trees out there, but there are places who sell great trees for much less. I see buzz words and well thought out hype in there. Added 5 candy crabs to a cart 2 year bareroot. Shipping is $154 to NY. I've had a dozen trees shipped to me from farther away last year for $50. Also, they had 1813 in stock. Sounds like a nice humble mom n pop.............

You got some known good ones, make or buy copies. You'd probably be well covered with only 4 or 5 varieties.

Whitetail crabs, turkey creek, and mehrabyan nursery has done well by me. I got to say a few bluehill and midwest deer trees offering catch my eye.
