Anyone Ever Grow Rice

Anyone ever grow rice in duck impoundment?

My dad and uncle used to put the seed into mud balls and chuck them into the water. Don't really know any specifics but they grew rice doing it that way if that helps at all.

Was that wild rice - or commercial ag rice?

I've never grown rice, but I've seen it done allover Asia. It looks like an absolute bummer of a crop to have to deal with. Very demanding and difficult without a lot of special equipment and slogging around in mud.

Everyone I've ever heard of growing in impoundments used millet. I suppose you could try wild rice if you wanted.

I dont think wild rice will grow in a southern impoundment. And yes, by all accounts - it is difficult to grow

I will look into. Rice seed is available near me. Was really looking for some rice planting suggestions more in a wetland situation as opposed to cultivated ag rice field
