Any chance this works?

Merle Hawggard

5 year old buck +
Two of my grafts failed this year so when I got up today, I'm working nights this week, I thought I'd try and regraft with my old scion wood in the fridge. I did a cleft graft on one of the failed rootstock then decided to try and bud them into my mother tree in the yard just to see if they'd take. If they appear to take should I cut them back in 6 weeks or so or wait till next spring? KINDLE_CAMERA_1462200594000.jpgKINDLE_CAMERA_1462200524000.jpg

My mother tree is in my yard not at our farm and I have several varieties grafted to it as a back up in case I lose a tree. It's a granniewinkle as the main tree and I'm going to get some freyburg apples off it this year it seems too.KINDLE_CAMERA_1462201200000.jpg

Looks like you did a T bud with a dormant scion bud but I'm looking on my phone. I think chip budding would work better with the dormant bud.

Yes, that's what I tried on those. They looked to be opening on the scion wood a bit and the bark slipped so good I couldn't help myself. They may be to old anyway, but the wood was green on them when I cut them back.

You just "June budded" in May.:DIf they show signs of growth in in the next few weeks I would cut the branch to just above your grafted bud this year.

Good deal! I didn't know if I could use dormant buds for that or not.
