Allegheny Chinkapin

Sportsman94

A good 3 year old buck
Anyone have any of these? I planted a few several years ago in middle Georgia and neglected them. Many were doing good, but this spring all but one died. The remaining one made a few nuts this year, but don’t know if it was just able to pollinate with one of the others before it died. Will it be able to make nuts next year if it’s the only one left? Or will I need to find a source for more? Having a hard time finding either nuts or seedlings online. I had already promised the nuts to someone or I would have kept them and replanted.

I have ordered from both. Route 9 is a little cheaper for the amount you get.

There are a few other threads regarding allegheny on here. I will yield to people with more experience. My understanding is that they will die back from blight (or other issues) and then re-sprout. I would get some more seed to add some diversity. The one tree you have can likely be pollinated with other chestnuts in the area (if there are any close enough). The trees that died may or may not come back. If they do, it can be a crap-shoot for how quickly they will sprout back.

I see Willis Orchards in GA has seedlings for sale. I bought some seeds from a member here a month or so ago. Message The Fishman, he may have some more to share.
