I have a 2 to 3 foot deep 5K square foot pond for the deer and other critters on my land. This year it has a blanket of algae covering it. I have been told that treating the pond with copper sulfate will remove the algae. First, is the algae a bad thing or does it just LOOK bad? It has not seemed to stop wildlife from using the pond. It sure does look ugly. Will copper sulfate help control the algae? Does it have any bad side effects? How often will I have to repeat the treatment? Any idea how much copper sulfate I will need for a single treatment of this pond?
Or am I the wrong tack completely. Will something like an algaecide for ponds work a lot better? I am also considering removing most of the algae by hand and then treating the pond.
Thanks for any help.
