Acronyms and what shortened names mean

Natty brought up a good point in another thread. We should list what the acronyms we use really mean. For those that are not use to them it can be confusing at times.

I'll start, but please add the Zillion I've left out and I'll just keep adding them to the list.

NWSG - Native Warm Season Grasses. (Typically we refer to but not limited to Switch Grass, big and little blue stem and Indian Grass.

SG -Switch Grass

CIR - Cave in Rock switch grass

PLS - Pure Live Seed

MG - Miscanthus Giganthus grass (not a NWSG)

ROD - Red Osier Dogwood

Gly - Glyophosphate (generic term and ingredient in Round up)

MFR - multiflora rose

Half the time auto fill on my IPad makes me look like an idiot.
Well that's what I'm blaming anyway. :)

Auto correct on my phone often makes me look like I am speaking a foreign language ... :emoji_fearful::emoji_relaxed:

Spud, post #5 - Not too lazy to spell things out - just saving a little time. Keeps posts from looking like 3 pages out of an encyclopedia !! :emoji_astonished:

The military uses acronyms quite heavily and I think most would not consider them to be lazy. Ya know, FWIW. :emoji_thumbsup:

BNB ... you are control of what you type ... you are usually not at a loss for words ... :emoji_slight_smile:

Sorry, just when you want to include more to join in the conversation, especially newbies, Acronyms become exclusionary ... it's all the old toads speaking to each other ...

If we want more participation ... less secret code words. Military, teaching, Govt and other orgs of hierarchy are famous for exclusion by coding language. I think on this website when we speak, we teach ... lots of folks lookin to learn. :emoji_wink:

I figure that I can spell out the entire name the first time I use it in a post as in Buck Wheat. Then the next time I mention it I can use the abbreviation BW. Real simple common sense solution.

I have been around deer forums for some years and still sometimes I shake my head and wonder just what an acronym actually means.

Not a bad point. It was me who suggested a thread about acronyms as I didn't know what MG stood for a few days ago. I didn't feel left out or excluded though. I just felt like I needed to figure out what MG was.

Massive gonads. Little red guy hovering over my one shoulder made me type this.

I use MG because I have to look up how to spell it out every time! Never claimed to be smart, just persistent.

I still screw up NWSG. Even as an acronym. :)
