5' cultipacker $575

Why is your tractor width an issue with this cultipacker?

Because it's not as wide as my tractor.

I prefer to pack with my ATV. I'd say the price is just a little high.

What makes you want to pack with the quad?

I was thinking the same thing. Some one else can be packing when you are planting a different plot with tractor.

As TT said, the tractor can be used for heavier work at the same time as packing with an ATV. 2 other things are that the quad is generally quicker and uses less fuel.

Ok then. Change of thought process.

What do you guys think IS a fair price for this packer?

I always thought about a $100 per foot was reasonable. This particular one has wood bearings and no area for additional weight. Two negatives.

I have a cultipacker that is very similar to this one in size and wheel type. The ATV tires pack the ground deeper than the cultipacker. Is that good or bad? I don't know. Not sure how much packing a cultipacker should do.

When looking at cultipackers if they have wood bearings make sure that they are in good condition or you will have to make new wood bearings or convert to steel bearings. Also check the wheels you want the 1 piece wheels not the 2 piece that are riveted together.
A couple of other cultipackers.

Good summary Tom. Thanks. I'll look for one with steel bearings I think.

ATV for packer is just faster and more efficient.

BJE80 - I just bought a 9 ft double cultipacker. Depending on your timetable - I plan on taking apart and making a couple cultipackers out of it. I pick it up on Saturday and my dad is going to take a look at what it will take to weld together another frame.

I'm interested and I'm not in a rush at all. Won't really need till summer of 2016.

I will keep you posted on the progress. If you know what size you are looking for, please let me know. I am still debating if I want to pull behind my tractor or four wheeler. I'm thinking it will be easier to leave the tiller connected to the tractor and switch out the seeder and cultipacker on the four wheeler. That way one guy can run tractor all day and I can probably keep up even with switching back and forth.

I would want a 5' or 6' er. Please keep me updated. I will be pulling mine with the 4 wheeler.
