308 win 150gr powder?

bigboreblr

5 year old buck +
Anybody got a favorite? Been doing ok with 748 win powder. 3-4 inch groups at 250 would be fine with me. Savage axis is probably up to the task. Seems to like Winchester silver tips and the Hornady equivalent of that. Just whitetails n coyotes.

Not what you're asking . But whatever powder The Winchester factory puts in their .300 Savage 150 gr Super X Power point ammo, drops Whitetails and 500 lb to 700 lb wild boar in their tracks.

IMR 4046 has been my default powder with .308 for close to 40 years in a half dozen rifles or more. Always had good results, some extraordinary.

Recently I tried Ramshot TAC in a new one, just to not have all my eggs in one basket (for when/if the IMR4064 gets hard to come by, which it did a few years ago). I worked up a load that shot really well in that new rifle. Right before hunting season I had my nephew try it in his rifle and it actually shot better than the worked up load we've been using in it for years. When his ammo stash runs out we'll probably switch to the TAC load.

This is all with Noslar 150gr Ballistic Tips, "Combined Technology Ballistic Silvertips" and a few Accubonds.

Hogdon 4331 SC has been my old reliable in so many guns.

When I was reloading for my Savage Axis .308, I'm used IMR 4895 because it's what was available. Consistent 1.25 to 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards with 150 grain bullets. Got the same performance from federal Fusion 150 grain and Remington Corelokt 180 grain, and I wasn't in the US enough to spend more time reloading, so I haven't reloaded anything in about 10 years.

If you have IMR 4895, I would start there. Get ahold of some ELD-X bullets. They shoot great in my Weatherby in Europe, and they are designed for long-range accuracy.
