Lesson Learned in small plot in the oaks

Last year, I added a 1/4 acre plot on my oak ridge and it worked out well. A month ago, I went up and frost seeded some clover and put lime down because I thought I would have good ground contact. This weekend I went up and found out that there was a thicker layer of leaves on the plot than I...

    Red Osier ?

Ben, two questions, how long are your cuttings? What time of year do you plant in MN/WI? Thanks

    Red Osier ?

My fear of putting them straight in the ground is the swamp area has tall grass and they might get shaded out. Also, if they need to be cut now, how do you go about planting them when the ground if still frozen?

    Red Osier ?

With the crazy warm temps, I would like to propagate some ROD sooner than later. My question is, when is it too late to take cuttings and plant propagate the in soil? My plan is to put 6-8 cuttings in 5 gallon buckets and get them going strong this year and then next year plant them with cages...

    Red Osier Dogwood plan?

I was thinking I would take 6' of fence and making a 23" diameter cage.

    Red Osier Dogwood plan?

I'm starting to make a plan to get some ROD growing in my swamp. After a lot of reading and watching, I'm planning on cutting pencil sized lengths and putting them in 6-8" pots this spring and letting the grow over the summer. During the winter months, I hope to put them in the basement to...

Wisconsin legislators author bill to reduce doe harvest in Northern Zone

I wonder if they use the chips to track them instead of collars?

    New V shaped plot?

From reading the posts, it sounds like an hour glass or something similar would be better so I can cover it all at one time. The shape of the plot is my biggest concern for this area. I do think adding a plot in this area would make hunting the corner better.

    New V shaped plot?

Maybe adding a plot in this area is not a good idea? It is really thick and hard to hunt the way it is currently set up, so I was hoping a kill plot would be the ticket. Any other suggestions on plot shape in a corner like this with fields on both sides?

    New V shaped plot?

I want the stand on the West side for a SE/E wind because it does happen more than a guy thinks. This year, I had 3 days in early Nov that were SE winds. Deer typically bed 150-200 yards in off the field edges. My goal is to make the plot and then in future years go in and create bedding...

    New V shaped plot?

The plot will be .225-.275 acres. Where I have the stands and the tip of the V, I will have 20 yard shots to a mock scrape. I'm in NW WI, Sawyer Co.

    New V shaped plot?

I'm thinking about adding a new plot to my 80. I've posted pictures before but added them again to show what I'm working with. The thought is to make a V plot with a stand on the east and south side. From hunting there 3 years, I have learned that the deer bed on mine and then head west to...

    Long and thin plot?

Currently, the corner area is best. The issue I'm having is that they head to the neighbor's field to the east on multiple trails. My thinking is a narrow plot will give them a place to travel and eat and then take one main trail to the ag field. If that happens I can place 2 stands and cover...

    Long and thin plot?

SD51555, this is exactly why I posted my question. Please tell me more about your thoughts and ideas. I currently have a corridor in this area. I just took a chainsaw and made a walking path wide enough for me to use. Deer do use it but it is tricky to hunt at times because they move past...

    Long and thin plot?

Great pictures Triple C. I don't have the land to go 300-400 yards long but I really like the concept. My hope is to spend time and map out a plot in the next few weeks.
