    Controlled Burn

I did my 1st controlled burn over the last couple weekends! I've been reading up and watching tutorials for a few years, in preparation. The strip on the right (aerial drone image), was our initial test strip, which was a simple back burn into the wind to see if we felt like we could contain...

.....You might be a habitat guy

You might be a habitat guy, if: you've taken on a second job... Just to pay for your habitat addiction. your kids ask if you are taking them on a tour of the local (and historic) college campus to collect acorns again this year. if your child who moved out of the houses room becomes a "grow...

    Big Rock Hybrid Poplar

I used Deer Stopper Concentrate from Amazon the 1st year, spraying them every other month until gun season in November. Then I stopped all together. Some got rubbed heavily but they were already growing tall and survived. Love my hybrid poplars! Planted in spring of 2014.

    Red Haven Peach Tree Help

Pretty sure those wraps were the issue... Take a look at the base of the cherry tree pictured, it really is that narrow at the base because of the wrap. Also shown is the other healthy peach tree for comparison. I've removed any wraps that I had used, going to put window screen around them...

I was afraid of that. Hoping I got it off in time if that was the case.

I'll snap a pic of the other one we have. It's much more lush with thick/full leaves.

    Red Haven Peach Tree Help

Planted a couple Red Haven Peach trees in 2015. This particular one has grown roughly 3x larger than the other one planted. This year the leaves are looking really weak with no new growth. I trimmed off all the dead/dying twigs, put a couple fertilizer spikes at the drip-lines, removed the...

    Scott's habitat improvements

Looks really good! I've been able to use Deer Stopper Concentrate (Amazon) once every 2-3 months to keep the deer off the cuttings while they establish.

    Scott's habitat improvements

Looks great! I'm having a tough time training my pear branches, they all want to shoot up as straight as possible. Are yours the same or is it just me? I use clothes pins to try to train them like I do my apple trees (which works), but not so much with the pears...

    Scott's habitat improvements

Thanks :) Been a rough, busy year... My niece and her 2 year old son are temporarily staying with us, started working on an MBA last summer, work, 3 kids in 5 sports and then my part-time 2nd job :) The 2nd job pays for this habitat/hunting habit though. Hope all has been well for both you...

    Scott's habitat improvements

Off topic and going back several years here, but did you frost seed some switchgrass into thatch? I can't remember if it was you who said that it worked for them or not.

    Box Blinds at Menards

I've gotta figure something out for the windows. Every time it rains, any rain that hits them goes right into the blind. Anyone resolved this yet? Maybe form some facia or similar and use a riveting gun?
