    Porcupine Damage

Porcupine got to 3 of my pears. 2nd year in a row. Last year I removed the cages on a few of my older trees figuring they were big enough to do so. I reinstalled the 3 cages late March this year. I'm guessing it was able to climb up the cage and reach out and grab the tree. Once on the tree it...

Who's working in the woods this weekend?

My crabs (10) and pears (10) arrived today so I'll be sinking them this weekend. I also have about 30 ninebark which I never got in last year and ended up potting. I'll get them in this weekend as well. Weather for this upcoming weekend in my area is looking great for tree planting.....cloudy...

    Collected Acorns yesterday.

Just throwing this out there in case you didn't know. I learned the hard way and hate to see you lose some trees. Windows (and grow lights) filter out certain rays from the sun. You want to gradually introduce those trees to the outside sun. The 1st few times (for a couple of hours) you bring...

    MD DNR Seedlings

I've ordered from numerous state nurseries over the years. As chickenlittle said all dependent on what I was looking to plant. Last year I was late ordering and was looking for Norways. I ended up ordering from the Iowa State Nursery.....1st time ever. I ordered Norways and Wild Plum. BEST trees...

    Need some advice

I'll give them a heavy pruning this winter and collect the cut offs to burn. Last winter when I pruned them back I did use a bucket of clorox/water solution to dip the pruners in between cuts. I'll pick up a copper spray along with Captan and start applying at the proper time come...

    Need some advice

If I recall the year this started we had a very wet and cold Spring right thru blossom. 95% of all the blossoms shrivel up, turned black, and died off. Most of the new buds on the trees eventually did the same. This pattern has repeated itself each and every since along with less new growth and...

    Need some advice

I will take better pics this coming weekend and post them. Most of my fruit trees have southern exposure and get plenty of sunlight thou I do need to do some releasing from nearby growth. I have yet to try any sprays. Any suggestions would help. Thank you for the reply.

    Need some advice

About 10 years ago I purchase 2 dozen apple trees (wild apple variety) from the St Lawrence Nursery. They were doing well and I had a few start to produce fruit about 5 years ago. Over the past 3 years quite a few (7-8) of these have developed a sickness. Not sure if its Fire Blight, Blossom...

pounds per acre cereal rye when using it to establish white clover in the fall?

That's a GREAT picture sequence! I like the way you rolled the spent WR rather than mowing it.

    Fire Blight?

Canton’s West of me. I’m not far from the Sayre/Athens Area. On another note.....when I saw some “wet” weather in the forecast last week I figured it would be a great time to get my Turnips in the ground. Rushed and got 2 acres in Saturday. Now my seed/Urea/dirt is most likely on route to the...

    Fire Blight?

I’m in Litchfield Twp. I used to post on the QDMA forum until that went South. I migrated over here afterwards but haven’t been that active over the years....just been to busy. I need to get into it as I really enjoy the reading and info. Thanks for the info guys. Chick I plan on following thru...

    Fire Blight?

I believe several of my apple and crab apple trees have Fire Blight. The past 2 years come Spring time the trees look healthy.....start to bud and bloom....then the new end growth wilt...turn black....the die back. The trees then struggle all summer. I took pics the best I could to show the...

Who's working in the woods this weekend?

It's been a long time Bill. "Wysox's"........"The Golden Mile". I've been stomping around that area for over 40 years. We call it Gods Country. Up and till our antler restriction 3" was fair game and WAS sought after. Our deer hunting now in Bradford County is better than it ever was.
