    Partial plot failure Question

I had read somewhere that the root systems of the trees on the edges are very widespread and can sometimes steal the nutrients on the edges of the plots. The recommendation was to either kill the trees on the edges or rent a trencher and cut a ring around the edge of the plot to take care of the...

The clover oats turned out good!

    Overseeded thin clover patch.

Broadcasting with no compaction? I would think about adding more than recommended as you will get less germination, but a good rain will get the stuff to grow in the cracks of your driveway let alone a plot :) We did 100lbs per acre when planting with clover to combat the animals and...

They hit our white pines pretty good too. I am guessing the non existent acorns are to blame.

Deer avoiding foot plots-what are they feeding on?

Still plenty of native food out there becoming preferred, also transitioning out of groups and dispersing to larger ranges. All contributing factors.

    The Throw n’ Mow Method

Planted buckwheat and clover in the spring. We then broadcast brassicas (radish, rape, PTT) and mowed the buckwheat on top. a few weeks later top seeded with winter rye. Looking good.

    Landlord's habitat improvements (I hope)

I had the same thing happen last year, I came home from my rut vacation and there was a beautiful 8 point bedding with a doe in my back yard!

    Sample Plan

Wow, that was an amazing thread to read. My father and I have started improving our property (other than small plots) this past late winter/spring hinge cutting around our food plots and creating a tornado zone to narrow travel/screen some of the deer's sight lines. We are over-run with maples...

    Landlord's habitat improvements (I hope)

From my experience in the area (I am most likely within 10 miles of you) IMO your property's strong point is already bedding with all the points sticking into the tags and the amount of edge transition. you can see the trails going through swamp grass between points which is a good sign. The...

    Hinging

Most of our hinging from this past spring made it through and are growing nicely around our clover plot.

    bueller's blotter

The front piece that looks short is a clover strip I planted this spring (picture is from July 10), but I am planning on seeding into the standing buckwheat and then brush hogging the buckwheat on top of the seed and run it over with the tractor/atv. We will see if it works, I just hate dragging...
