That’s why I’m always on my best behavior! (She always responds with an eye roll when I say that). I will say I’m thrilled for her to bag nice buck in consecutive years. However, even better than the harvests, she’s really buying into some of the habitat work & has been asking about what we are...

It is one of the old school 1hp grinders from Cabelas. Probably 20-30yr old. The thing must weigh 1000lbs. It chewed up anything I threw in there with ease. I ground about 30# of venison with it yesterday in just a few minutes.

Hahahah, I know! My brother and I have bets on how long it will be standing before it's either snapped in half or uprooted by a buck. I have a bigger pine that was historically a scrape/rub tree next to my house that I am going to replace into that spot this winter with my backhoe. It should...

I will def share when it is finished. My father in law aged the deer today when processing the head/hide at 4.5yr old. She got hers from last year back a few months ago. It’s now hanging in our son’s bedroom.

Processed a whole lot of venison today. The ol man will be enjoyed for months to come. Also, transplanted a pine sapling to the food plot edge to hopefully entice a few visitors to a rub/scrape. The field gets tons of activity but hoping to something of a destination for the buck to visit...

Wife knocked down a good one for the second year in a row! Her dad (who’s a whitetail legend in my book & a damn good taxidermist) was able to come over to help track. Double lung & the deer was found 50yds. It was extra special to be able to share the event with him & our son! Got some great...

    Basagran + Cleth?

I had a bad bad case of nutsedge. I hit the field with gly, then 2 weeks later hit with sedgehammer & 2,4d (I was killing a lot more than just sedge). When walking the field I didn’t see a single blade of sedge left. Not sure if it was the sedgehammer itself or the combo with gly prior, but...

I've got my sights set on the 6 this year and my wife has been targeting the wide 8 in the background. She's had 4 run-ins with him in 4 sits so far this year. Fingers crossed she gets it done soon. Still having doe hitting the fields in droves - I think it should be a fun place so sit in a...

The Pursuit of a Birthday Buck

356, you're an excellent writer, this post carries prose fitting for published piece. Happy Birthday and good luck in the woods. I hope you connect with one today, but even more so, I hope you find enjoyment in the hunt regardless of outcome and that you never lose that blend of anticipation...

Had to get a little help from my little man to operate the tractor while mom was up in the bucket trimming back her shooting lane a little. 100% OSHA approved work environment.

Well boys, I’m destined for the dog house! Helped my wife sight in her crossbow yesterday & yours truly sighted in on the wrong pin. She had a good opportunity at a nice 8 this afternoon & shot went way low and had a clean miss. Happy it didn’t end up as a poor hit, but she was bummed...

    Alsike clover

Hey there, friend! My soil here is primarily clay, but decent nutrient profile. I’m sure most can sympathize, but I’m fighting Mother Nature, too wet in the spring and dry as a bone by August. I had good luck this year, but I’ll chalk that up to beginners luck 😂

    Live from the stand thread

Didn’t see much fur on my first sit of the year, but was treated to a beautiful sky on my hike in & perfect autumn weather here in PA. My wife is out sitting with her bow now. I’m hoping she connects with one this weekend, I think she has a good chance. 🤞
