How is your success rate with 10’ tall trees? I’ve only done young ones under the impression you’ll get more roots for the size, which would result in a better success rate.
Are mature deer comfortable using an open orchid in daylight? I’ve wondered how important shrub cover is in an orchid, I feel like most of the photos I see of mature deer eating fruit are night time photos.
I don’t believe it helps grow faster. Less support will develop a stronger trunk from the wind. But a stake will ensure a straighter trunk if the trees roots aren’t established yet.
I don’t either, just step them down well, but the biggest bare root I’ve planted is only 3-4’. If you do something with a lot of weight on the top 1 year is plenty for it to get rooted in.

How is your success rate? If the soil is wet and the roots are wet it would make sense that they do not need to be watered in. Aside from helping with air pockets I guess.
I always do, I keep a 5 gal bucket of water with me, put 2-3 plants in bucket, dig holes and when I pull one out of bucket I place a new one in. I’m 47/48 with bare root so far. Keeping my fingers crossed the luck continues.
It says standard rootstock. Some of the other ones I received look better, but those curved bottom large roots have me a little concerned they they seem to be growing upward rather than down or lateral to anchor the tree.
