I thought I would comment on your fawns with spots comment since I live pretty close to you. I have had a doe on camera carrying in early August before. If a 201 day gestation period is accurate, that would be a mid-January conception which I have also seen (heavy rutting activity with multiple...

Concordia Oaks and Swamp / Bur Hybrids

Great! I will bookmark them both as a future reference. Best wishes with planting. I received my small order from Missouri Dept. Conservation yesterday. My back is also sore lol.

Concordia Oaks and Swamp / Bur Hybrids

Nice! Where are those available? Might try to pick some up next year. My previously planted trees from but are waking up for their second year!

Loved all your updates, J-bird! Congrats on the three deer taken so far on your farm. I am seeing the same thing on my end of the state. My slowest camera year ever. The EHD last year absolutely decimated our herd. I even found more dead deer during shed season in the spring that I had...

    Sweetango harvest begins

Looks beautiful! I just bought a few Sweetango's earlier today at Meijer to try for the first time. They looked beautiful, but I'm sure they won't taste as good as yours!

Looking for English Oak if they become available at some point! Shipping/fee not a problem.

How Would You Approach This Clover Field?

Thank you for the recommendation. I will file that away for future usage as this particular project is a slow one. I have planted norway spruce around 3 acres or so and planted about 20 fruit/nut tree varieties. So it will be a few years before I'm ready to try the "magazine" look. :)

How Would You Approach This Clover Field?

Great perspective. I haven't seen any browse on the oxalis, black-eyed susan, or daisies yet, but I do agree that their heights is providing needed shade for the clover during this dry spell. I will probably hit with some rye this fall!

How Would You Approach This Clover Field?

Thank you to both of these replies! Incredibly informative. This is kind of a long-term project, so I think I'll let the clover ride for now. The wicking bar idea is awesome and I will look into that. Spot spraying, as suggested is also a viable option for the ironweed, as I do not have...

How Would You Approach This Clover Field?

Hey Folks, I'd love some feedback on this as I am new to establishing clover and would love some advice. Here are the details: This is a one acre clover plot I did throw n' mow to last fall with some Ladino and Cereal Rye mixed in. It was a cattle pasture previously so there are...

    best chainsaw for habitat work

+1 for Echo. We've been Stihl guys for a long time here at my house, but I've been running a 14" Echo 2511t for medium and light duty and a 20" Echo Timberwolf CS590 for large tree work. Man oh man, they both cut so good, primarily because of the amazing chisel chains, but the compression and...

I feel your pain. Lots of my trees got bit by this late frost. It has me thinking about doing a bit more research into late-blooming varieties of apples and pears...It wouldn't hurt to have some of those as insurance!

Concordia Oaks and Swamp / Bur Hybrids

How cool is that?! I don't think I've ever heard of anyone getting acorns from a Bur Oak that soon.

Planted my Northern Whitetail Crabs today.
